If I can't be in boats on the water, a good substitute is walking among them when they're on the hard for winter. Perhaps it's even better, for then I can imagine boating without having to deal with the reality! I wandered around Portsmouth Olympic Harbour after an early snow. I have a certain affection for this facility, having misspent long periods of my youth there. It has always been ugly, but I like it anyway.
